"How you do one thing is how you do everything."
I hear this quote a lot: "How you do one thing is how you do everything." I realized it used to go over my head. I thought I knew what it meant, but now I have developed a new meaning for it.
I'm processing it now as whatever personal goal you have for yourself—and it doesn't matter where you are in your journey—be the best at it. Now, my dad used to tell me this all the time growing up. I would just listen and think, "Oh, he's just my dad giving me a speech again." My brain was not mature enough to grasp the message beyond the messenger.
Some of my goals are to be an amazing friend, nurse, wife, business owner, daughter, yadda yadda yadda. Even though some of these things aren't showing up right now, I can still be amazing at whatever I currently have to show up as.
I have sat and kind of looked over my life, and I remember when I used to work at Jimmy Changas for 7 years. I started out as a host, then a to-go girl, moved up to server, and then lead trainer. I just could not get the hang of being a bartender. Like, I want to drink the drinks, not learn about them—but anyways, back to the point.
I was the best host, which opened the door for me to get moved to a to-go girl and so on. I didn't want to work in the restaurant forever, but I was still amazing at it because that is what I had to do in that season. Right now, with me having to DoorDash, I'm trying to be the best at that.
I understand my best may not look like someone else's best, and I AM OKAY WITH THAT. One thing I've been doing while trying to be the best dasher, lol, is texting the customers if I arrive and the order is still being processed. I have gotten a lot of appreciative customers. I just feel like if I order something and it's taking a while, I would want someone to let me know. I don't care if it's DoorDash or not.
I also write a note on their bag. All it says is, "Have an amazing day - Tumara" with a smiley face. This may seem so small, but it made me smile while writing it, so I'm sure someone out there might smile while reading it. And just to be clear, I am not doing all of that for an extra tip (though that would be nice). I'm trying to practice being amazing with small things that I may have to do in this season. Because again, how you do one thing is how you do everything!!!
I may not be a "wife" in the physical world, but I know I have a wife spirit, so that's not going to stop me from showing up in my love life as that. I may not have a "nurse" job currently, but I have a nursing/nurturing spirit, so I again can still show up as that.
Each day I want to wake up and think, what is something I can do today to be 1% closer to the goals and the person I want to become, and embody that. I don't care if I was working at a gas station or the White House, I will be the best worker they have ever seen, lol. I don't care if I had 1 friend or 20, I will be the best friend they ever had, etc. Please ask about me! I don't need others to hold me to that standard because I hold myself to that standard.
