How do you eat YOUR apples? ☺
How do you eat an apple? You don't put the whole thing in your mouth and be done. You take one bite at a time, until it's gone or the seeds are the only thing left. I think each day should be treated like an apple. An apple a day may keep the crazy away, the doctor away, the poverty away, the depression away, the self-hate away. You get it, or maybe not—here, let me explain.
The little bites in the apple are equivalent to the small actions you take each day.
We all have it right now, today (the day you are alive reading this).
- It's 24 hours in a day = 1 apple.
- Small bites = small decisions we make each hour of the day
- Ex: I'm an amazing nurse = 12 hours of amazing customer service = 1Apple
So in that 12 hours, my small bites/ small decisions may look like: introducing myself to the patient, advocating for them, educating them, giving the right meds, yaddah yaddah. These are small decisions that will make me an amazing nurse. After my 12-hour shift, I have tackled that nurse apple.
This can be used for other areas of my life that I aspire to be amazing at:
- Amazing partner = 1 apple
- Small bites = active listening, reflecting, not reacting off of emotion, giving silence and space a positive energy, going to God and not family and friends with problems, challenging them to grow as an individual, speaking life & encouragement, unconditional love, walks in the park, lunch prep, not taking things personally, and reflecting on what I can learn from situations, etc.
- ☺
- Amazing friend = 1 apple
- Small bites = active listening, non-judgmental communication, giving perspectives instead of advice (it's their life, don't tell them what to do), speaking life, offering light jokes for laughter, monthly meet-ups to decompress, etc.
- ☺
- Amazing creative = 1 apple
- Small bites = creating designs for my clothing company, creating questions every week for my card game, posting 1 note on my blog a week, freeing my body from sugars and alcohol so I can freely think and create, etc.
- ☺
- An amazing 5K runner = 1 apple
- Small bites = doing cardio more than 2x a week, strength training 2x week to build stronger glutes, hamstrings, and core, eating healthier breakfasts daily, drinking a certain amount of water before and after running, allowing my body to rest, stretching daily, eating minimal to no dairy or carbs, etc.
- ☺
It's so many more apples I aspire to consume in my own 24 hours.
Some apples may take me 12 hours to consume, and some may take 15–30 minutes. The time frame doesn't matter. What matters is that I finish the apples I consider to be delicious to me every 24 hours that I am blessed with. And over time, I will become 1% more amazing and healthy, and less depressed, and have no more self-hate, and exude love & grace to all things I come in contact with, yaddah yaddah.
Pick your apples and pick your small bites that YOU can consume in 24 hours. Don't worry about anyone else's apples and how large or small their bites are. Eat your own food and mind your own business!
